Title: The Role of URIS and Research Information Management Systems (RIMS) in the Implementation of Open Science
Authors: De Castro, Pablo
Abstract: The presentation explores the role that Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) -- and specifically the National Ukrainian Research Information System URIS -- play in the implementation of Open Science. CRIS systems help provide an open and comprehensive snapshot of the research that is conducted at an institution or in a whole country and may become key tools in the implementation of specific areas of Open Science such as Open Access and Research Data Management.

Abstract: The RAD-on portal forms an integral component of an IT system that presents reports, analyses, and data on science and higher education in Poland. RAD-on was developed by the National Information Processing Institute (OPI PIB) in collaboration with the Polish Ministry of Education and Science as part of the Integrated Network of Information on Science and Higher Education project.; In terms of the data it collects and shares, RAD-on is currently the largest national IT system in science and higher education in Europe. It stores information on nearly all scientific institutions in Poland, as well as their scientists. This includes academic teachers and other individuals who conduct classes at higher education institutions. RAD-on also offers comprehensive lists of scholarly publications, national and international patents, research projects funded by various sources, and institutional investments. It contains extensive information on students, graduates, and on tertiary education programmes, including fields of study, foreign students, PhD students, and study formats.

Title: An Updated Snapshot of the CRIS Landscape
Authors: Dvořák, Jan; De Castro, Pablo; Vancauwenbergh, Sadia; Herwig, Sebastian
Abstract: The Current Research Information System (CRIS) landscape is becoming increasingly complex. In the early days, CRIS systems were often seen as institutional assets, but by gradually realising the many benefits CRIS systems bring to the Research Management and Administration community for organising and supporting research in a more efficient manner, numerous stakeholders have now adopted more region-wide approaches to CRIS system operation. In fact, research information management practice often follows national frameworks, which in turn leads to the emergence of country-specific CRIS vendors and solutions. While it is still possible to provide a generic overview of the system solutions available, any international CRIS landscape description will often need to be fine-tuned for a specific geographic area. This trend may be even more acute in the area of research management and administration.; In February 2021 euroCRIS and EARMA organised a joint event on the overlap between research information management (RIM) and research management and administration (RMA). The former is the 'natural playground' for CRIS systems, but as discussed back then, RIM and RMA are actually a continuum in the research lifecycle and system solutions often cover areas from both domains.

Title: Recent advances in CRIS interoperability
Authors: De Castro, Pablo
Abstract: The talk provides an overview of the progress around CRIS interoperability that has taken place since last year's presentation at the previous 8th Seminar of University Knowledge Bases, http://hdl.handle.net/11366/1921. Emphasis is made on the socio-technical nature of the research information management or CRIS infrastructure and the newly launched "National/Regional Research Portals Working Group" – jointly operated by euroCRIS and the Austrian RIS Synergy project – is subsequently introduced. The possible role of POL-on in this wide group of national and regional CRIS is examined. The presentation then moves onto the area of PIDs, for whose implementation CRIS systems (both institutional and national/regional ones) are not only expected to play a key role, but are in fact key actors already. Beyond well-established PIDs like DOIs, ORCIDs or even RORs, the talk will examine the role of CRIS systems in the gradual adoption of emerging PIDs like DOI-based grant IDs, RAiDs and PIDs for instruments and facilities as highlighted in the Knowledge Exchange report "Building the plane as we fly it" released last month, https://zenodo.org/record/7258286.
