    New professional roles? Competencies and task profiles in IT-supported research reporting – Introduction to the research project “BERTI”

    Changes in the governance structure of research have resulted in a growing need for information to enable strategic management of higher education institutions. As a consequence, new occupational roles and task profiles for IT-based reporting of research activities emerge which often necessitate the use of Current Research Information Systems (CRIS). We introduce a research project that aims to develop new insights about this specific occupational group in the field of research management by investigating their task profiles, qualifications and competences. We present a concept and major dimensions of professional competence in IT-based research documentation and illustrate practical implications of modelling competencies and job roles for the qualification and training of this new occupational group.

    Competency requirements in research information management and reporting: evidence from a national survey in Germany

    The advancement of research information management (RIM) and reporting is both a technical and a personnel matter. As such, task areas and competencies of Current Research Information System (CRIS) managers have been increasingly recognized as important topics of professional development and study. Research on human resource development indicates that competencies can be integrated into a comprehensible, application-related, and future-oriented framework: a so called competency model. In this paper we intend to empirically enrich and concretize earlier work on a competency model for RIM as an emerging task area. The model is ultimately intended to represent different competency requirements and job profiles.

They can be used in multiple contexts, ranging from public relations and networking to monitoring and reporting activities as well as performance-based funding (Biesenbender & Hornbostel, 2016).
