    OpenAIRE Guidelines for CRIS Managers: Supporting interoperability of Open Research Information through established standards

    OpenAIRE is the European infrastructure enabling researchers to comply with the European Union requirements for Open Access to research results. OpenAIRE collects metadata from data sources across Europe and beyond and defines interoperability guidelines to assist providers in exposing their information in a way that is compatible with OpenAIRE. This contribution focuses on a specific type of data source, CRIS systems, and the respective OpenAIRE guidelines, based on CERIF XML. A range of issues, spanning different aspects of information representation and exchange, needed to be addressed by the guidelines in order to define a complete solution for interoperability.

    Facilitating the discovery and identification of EOSC resources

    The European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) is a pan-European virtual environment for sharing and accessing research resources across borders and scientific disciplines. It provides scientists with a vast array of research services and products. However, the extensive array of content poses challenges for researchers in discovering and identifying resources of interest. FAIRCORE4EOSC is a project that aims to develop a set of core components for EOSC, focusing on supporting data FAIRness and addressing gaps identified in the EOSC Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA). Among others, FAIRCORE4EOSC will deliver RDGraph and PID Graph, two components that can facilitate the discovery and identification of EOSC resources. In this 2-hr tutorial, the instructors present the main functionalities of both components and explain the underlying technologies. The functionalities will be presented using live demonstrators offering also the option for a hands-on experience by the audience.

    Progress in the Implementation of the OpenAIRE Guidelines for CRIS Managers

    This contribution provides an update on the implementation of the OpenAIRE Guidelines for CRIS Managers based on CERIF-XML, which aim to allow Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) to be harvested by the OpenAIRE content aggregator. Besides describing the technical challenges posed by this step forward in system interoperability, the text provides an insight on the CRIS landscape and how different systems could gradually become OpenAIRE-compliant. The contribution is a follow-up to previous presentations on the progress with the drafting of these guidelines that were delivered at past CRIS conferences.

    Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) occupy a central position in institutional research information management and are increasingly implicated in national reporting, funder workflows, and research evaluation. Despite long-standing investments in standardisation, (e.g. through CERIF, DataCite, Dublin Core), research information remains fragmented across heterogeneous systems, inconsistently structured, and frequently mediated through proprietary analytics layers. This fragmentation becomes particularly consequential as organisations seek to implement responsible evaluation approaches that require research information to be transparent, auditable, and reusable across different stakeholders and contexts. These requirements align directly with emerging international frameworks for open research information and responsible assessment.
