Abstract
The presentation addresses one key question first and foremost, namely what a research information system should know about an infrastructure, told through European roadmapping practice and through Ukraine. The talk argues for a dialogue between two communities: the people working on research infrastructures, their roadmapping, governance and mapping, and those dealing with research information systems aiming at capturing that information on research infrastructures. Infrastructure roadmapping and the strategy around it generate intelligence. This intelligence is the real payload, and a CERIF-based CRIS is its natural home – not a static inventory.
The presentation examines some case studies for national/regional CRIS (FRIS in Flanders, SK CRIS in Slovakia) and makes the case for four principles in national-level RI mapping: obligation, ownership, one golden record, and provenance kept underneath. The shortcomings of the previous MERIL attempts at a RI directory are dissected and the argument made for the CRIS holding the information needed for roadmap evaluation and RI monitoring cycles as structured, connected entities. If the evaluation reads from the CRIS rather than issuing its own form, the data is collected once and reused many times.
