Abstract
National and regional CRIS initiatives are often approached as technical integration projects, yet their success depends just as much on social, organisational, and governance dynamics. CRIS operators sit at the center of these socio-technical collaborations, navigating competing stakeholder interests, policy expectations, and long-term sustainability challenges—often without a shared framework or practical tools to do so.
This interactive workshop introduces a socio-technical perspective on large-scale CRIS collaborations, tailored to the realities faced by CRIS operators. Based on concrete experiences from existing national CRIS initiatives, the session explores recurring patterns and tensions that shape how these systems evolve in practice — often in ways that are difficult to plan for or fully control.
The aim is to create space for shared reflection and learning. Participants are expected to develop a clearer understanding of the social dynamics at play in large-scale CRIS collaborations and gain practical ways of thinking about stakeholder engagement, decision-making, and risk in complex environments.
The workshop is intended for CRIS operators involved in national or regional initiatives who want to strengthen collaboration, improve resilience, and better navigate the human side of large-scale research information systems.
