Abstract
Challenges are high for scientists to collaborate among different disciplines. Discovering knowledge in massively available data from relevant domains, with current analytical modelling approaches and computer simulations, is also very difficult.
The VRE4EIC project approaches the challenges by collecting and analysing requirements from several research communities, in order to build a Reference Architecture and prototypes based on this analysis.
The integration of data and services is necessarily dependent on high quality metadata with formal syntax and declared semantics, which is at the core of the VRE architecture and prototypes that will be developed. High quality metadata facilitates the provision of automated functions that allow for not only access to data, but also to software and computing resources.
The project will build on the interoperable metadata standards of Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) that already exist, use the CERIF metadata schema to populate the VRE catalogs and link research actors, research organisational context and research outputs.
