Item type:Publication, Usability on the Edge: The Implementation of u:cris at the University of Vienna(euroCRIS, 2014-05-13); ; ; ; In 2011, the top management of the University of Vienna made a fundamental (and possibly trend-setting) decision to replace the old research information system with a contemporary vendor system. This paper highlights the reasons behind the decision and illustrates the implementation process, which is not only a challenge from a technical point of view. It is an even more challenging political task to involve all the stakeholders and especially those who have to live with the burden of recording research output - researchers and staff alike. Our experience shows that a legal reporting obligation, such as that dictated by the Universities Act 2002, serves as an incentive for users to populate a CRIS with up-to-date information only to a certain extent. Rather, a user- and researcher-centred approach is crucial for a CRIS to gain user acceptance. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Lessons Learned and the Road Ahead: Building on the Success of RIS Synergy(euroCRIS, 2024-05-17); ; ; ; The RIS Synergy project was launched in March 2020 under the leadership of TU Wien and is a part of the Research Data Cluster, which brings together digitisation projects to improve research support along the scientific project cycle. The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF) as part of the "Digital and Social Transformation in Higher Education" call for proposals. Initially starting with 13 partners (10 universities and 3 research funding institutions), the project consortium now includes 18 participating institutions (14 universities, 4 research funding institutions). The goals of RIS Synergy encompass optimising administrative support for research projects, enhancing data quality and transparency for research institutions, and improving the quality of research data. It addresses key aspects of digital transformation within a cross-institutional consortium. The project is divided into two subprojects: Subproject One, “Interfaces and Standards”, focuses on developing standardised access and exchange options for the systems of funding organisations, research institutions, and public administrative bodies. Subproject Two, “Concept Study for a Research Portal”, then analyses the framework conditions and requirements for creating an Austrian national research portal. Thus, RIS Synergy aims to enhance visibility for science by standardising and digitising services, as well as by establishing expert networks. This paper offers insights into the project’s overall approach, key findings from the last four years as well as lessons learned, and provides an outlook on future challenges related to the project's conclusion and its transition to regular operations. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

The Case of University of Vienna(Slovak Centre of Scientific and Technical Information (CVTI SR), 2018-11); Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) have been implemented at Austrian Universities, as in many other European countries, with the incentive to account for scientific conduct of Universities. The CRIS at the University of Vienna – u:cris – has been implemented starting with 2012-2013, as a follow-up project of the previously deployed CRIS. It was the main aim of the project to reflect the critique the former system encountered – poor maintenance of profiles, missing options for the presentation of academic profiles. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Research Information on an International Level: Understanding the diverse landscape of national and regional CRIS(euroCRIS, 2024-05-15); ; ; ; CRIS2024 conference round table on the topic of national/regional research portals and research information systems. Two years after the CRIS2022 workshop "National Research Portal 101: The dos and don'ts of building a sustainable portal" at http://hdl.handle.net/11366/1976 that initiated the CRISCROS Working Group on National and Regional Research Portals, the working group would like to present the findings of almost two years of collaboration in a specific session dedicated to this topic. The activity was conducted as a one-hour session with the participation of working group participants as well as other interested conference visitors. Item type:Publication, Striking a Balance: Bridging Needs and Researcher Convenience Through Interactions Between Researchers, Administration and IT Tools(euroCRIS, 2024-05-15); ; ; Universities need to position themselves, push and promote research and secure funding. They require detailed insights into their research strengths, comprehensive information about their researchers, and strategic planning based on this knowledge. Furthermore, securing these strategies and operational funding necessitates meaningful reports based on reliable data and analysis. Hence, universities necessitate systems supporting various aspects of the research lifecycle, including grant management, project tracking, publication management, collaboration and reporting. A proactive CRIS (Current Research Information System) at a technical university can significantly enhance research efficiency, amplify research visibility and impact, and encourage collaboration among researchers and other stakeholders. Item type:Publication, From data collection to FAIR use in CRIS. The case of University of Vienna(euroCRIS, 2017-11-22); The presentation offers an overview of the way the Pure-based u:cris platform is being used to support different research information management areas at the University of Vienna. Research information management workflows are described that involve a close collaboration between the Library and the Research Services and Career Development Unit at the institution. Areas like publication validation, reporting and award management have all benefited from the introduction of u:cris and are now carried out in a far more comprehensive way. Special attention is being paid within this research information management activity to the visibility of research in the SSH and its outputs. Austrian national-level collaborative networks are finally described for a coordinated approach to CRIS management (FIS/CRIS) and for progressing in the implementation of the Austrian Transition to Open Access (AT2OA).
