The implementation of a Research Information Management System (aka CRIS/RIMS) at any University is challenging from the administrative, organisational, technical points of view, not to mention the economics. There are several solutions on the market that claim to address all the University needs with different points of strength and weakness that are hard to understand without a deep dive into the solution. Costs of some of these solutions can be hidden and unfortunately commercial strategies can be used to lock the adopting university in a path that only at its end will show the real costs.

DSpace-CRIS@HKU: Achieving visibility with a CERIF compliant Open Source System

The CRIS now at the University of Hong Kong, “HKU Scholars Hub” (the Hub), began as a means to provide visibility to HKU research, people, and their expertise. It now also acts as a tool for management, evaluation and visualization of HKU research. The expected addition of CERIF compliancy to DSpace-CRIS in May 2014, will further enhance the Hub’s utility for visibility, collaboration, and benchmarking.

A novel way of supporting CERIF information interchange is presented. Profiles (subsets) of CERIF will be constructed for specific research information interchange requirements. The production of the profile artifacts will be supported by tools prepared by the CERIF TG. The end goal and expected result is a much simplified adoption of CERIF by users.

    SynSICRIS Technical Highlights
    (euroCRIS, 2020-11-27)
The presentation describes the technical support role played by 4Science in the SynSICRIS project. A list of the DSpace-CRIS platform features on which the SynSICRIS development will be based is provided together with a summary of the challenges the project faces. A critical one among these is the fact that DSpace-CRIS has so far been (extensively) used as an institutional CRIS, while the SynSICRIS project aims to redesign it as a research funder CRIS. This has several conceptual implications.
