    AI and Innovation Initiatives for Scientific Research Funding Processes at CAPES/Brazil

    The presentation describes the strategy on the implementation of AI-enriched workflows at CAPES - the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education. The multilayered policy framework around AI is presented covering CAPES itself, the Brazilian Ministry of Education and the Brazilian Artificial Intelligence Plan (PBIA). A number of areas in the research information management domain are explored where generative AI may successfully be applied. A case study at CAPES is described, using the Sucupira database for the processing of historical documents of the graduate studies. The rationale for the creation of a Community of Practice around AI is explained and the objectives of such CoP explained, including the investment in infrastruture.
