    NVA: A National Repository and Research Information System

    The presentation introduces the new Norwegian national repository and research information system (NVA for Nasjonalt Vitenarkiv) currently in the process of being built by Sikt (Norwegian Agency for Shared Services in Education and Research). A historical snapshot is provided describing the evolution in the common repository and CRIS infrastructure over the years. The new system, whose features are thoroughly described, aims to achieve a further service integration on the national level.

    An update from the NVA project

    Following the introduction to the new NVA national CRIS/repository in Norway at the Spring 2023 euroCRIS membership meeting in Brussels, http://hdl.handle.net/11366/2449, this update reports on the project progress provides additional details on the governance mechanisms and the central import, publishing and approval workflows. The National Scientific Index (NVI) to be used to rank institutions and authors is also described.

    A Brief Description of the Development of the Norwegian Research Information Repository

    The Norwegian Research Information Repository (NVA) is a national, open‑source infrastructure for documenting current Norwegian research activities and results and underpins national reporting to the Norwegian Scientific Index (NVI). It is deployed as a service‑oriented, serverless platform on AWS, using a graph data model aligned with FAIR principles and persistent identifiers. The platform has enabled the Norwegian government to effectively mandate open access for publicly funded research and provides institutions with shared tools, workflows, and best practices for research documentation. The paper describes the historical context, development process, technical architecture, achieved results, lessons learned, and future work, offering practical guidance when developing national‑scale research information infrastructures.
