    Building the Ukrainian Research Information System

    Ukraine is home to 619 higher education institutions (including 281 universities) and National Academy of Science which is an umbrella organization that consists of 160 research institutions. In sum, nearly 1000 organizations and about 80,000 researchers perform scientific activities on a daily basis. Besides, nearly 4,000 applications for inventions, 9,000 applications for useful models and 2,500 applications for industrial patterns are submitted annually. At the same time, metadata that accompanies various research activities as well as information that describes the research output is fragmented and resides in different, heterogeneous systems or in some cases is absent in machine readable format. Such a situation makes the reporting process tiring and highly time consuming as institutional research offices have to search in several different systems, including commercial, subscription based databases like Web of Science and Scopus. Moreover, lack of state-of-the-art research information is one of the deficiencies of the scientific landscape, which negatively impact funding allocation. In this poster we would like to present our progress on building National Current Research Information System and provide overview of research infrastructure in Ukraine.

    Building FAIR Metadata Mapping Model for Scientific Instruments in the Ukrainian Research Information System (URIS): Supporting Recovery and Interoperability of Research Infrastructures

    Open research infrastructures depend not only on physical facilities but on structured, interoperable, and reusable metadata describing the resources that enable research. While Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) have matured in managing projects, publications, funding, researchers, and organizations, scientific instruments, the core operational units of research infrastructures, remain largely underrepresented as standardized metadata entities. The Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information and the FAIR principles emphasize transparency and interoperability of research information systems. However, the practical application of FAIR for physical scientific instruments in national CRIS contexts remains limited.

    Persistent conference identifiers in CRIS – first implementations with VIVO and URIS

    Academic events serve as pivotal instruments for scholarly discourse and networking within the scientific community. However, the quality of metadata describing these events often falls short, hindering their effective utilization. The ConfIDent project addresses this gap by establishing a registry for high-quality conference metadata with persistent identifiers (PIDs). It aims to enhance data management and accessibility while aligning with FAIR principles. ConfIDent has pioneered the creation of approximately 5000 DOIs for events, promoting transparency and interoperability. Integrating Conference PIDs into Research Information Systems (RIS) is essential for comprehensive research evaluation, as advocated by frameworks like the Leiden Manifesto and the Hong Kong Principles. Two case studies illustrate how the implementation of ConfIDent in RIS platforms can be tailored to specific research domains: the Forschungsatlas and the Ukraine Research Information System (URIS). Both cases aim at automated retrieval and integration of academic event metadata, enhancing the visibility and assessment of scholarly activities. Looking ahead, the integration of PIDs for events holds promise for advancing the role of academic events within RIS, fostering a more robust and nuanced approach to research evaluation.

    Systematic Analysis of National CRIS on the euroCRIS DRIS to Inform the Development of the Ukrainian National CRIS URIS

    This research aims to conduct a thorough landscape study of the national and regional CRIS systems recorded in the euroCRIS DRIS. The main objective of this study is to use and improve this data when designing the architecture for the Ukrainian research information system (URIS|NAUKA) (https://nauka.gov.ua/en/) currently under development as the Ukrainian national CRIS.
