Abstract
The presentation provides a description of the current CRIS landscape with an emphasis on European countries. Starting with an analysis of what CRIS systems are and what they are not, several examples are shown for institutional, funder and national- and regional-level research information management systems. The role of euroCRIS in mapping this landscape via the Directory of Research Information Systems (DRIS) and via periodic surveys of the RIM community is described. Different models for CRIS implementation in different countries are analysed, from the overarching national-level CRIS to a collection of interoperable institutional CRISs that cover a large fraction of the research conducted in specific countries. The potentially innovative role of subject-based CRISs for fostering system interoperability is touched upon, and the current way in which CRISs are working with VIVO is examined.
