Abstract
CRIS-Avanza ("CRIS-Forward", https://ilearning.scimarina.com/cris-avanza/) is the largest funded project arising from the María de Guzmán (MdG) call issued by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) in 2025 – as well as the sole one where a consortium has been funded. It is a 17-month project (Apr'26-Sep'27) led by the Universidad Politécnica in Madrid (UPM) and involving 17 institutions – universities and research centres – across the Spanish public research system. All these research-performing organisations share a common CRIS solution, namely iMarina, and the objective of the CRIS-Avanza project is to jointly evolve the CRIS software together with the vendor into a model fully aligned with the Spanish National Strategy for Open Science (ENCA).
This involves fully factoring in Open Science, the FAIR principles and in particular the various initiatives around responsible research assessment such as CoARA and DORA. The project is articulated around 10 modular actions, each of them led by one of the participating institutions. These modular actions are organised along three strategic themes: (1) Open Science-aligned Curricular Model, (2) Responsible and Qualitative Assessment and (3) Sustainable Knowledge Community. The latter one involves a participatory governance model for the iMarina user community.
