Abstract: 
The presentation describes the existing initiatives for author identification (institutional, subject-based, cross-institutional, national, commercial) before the arrival of ORCID, and the strategies for ORCID implementation that are presently being applied in Spain. Emphasis is made on the the advantages that running a CRIS will mean for HEIs when implementing ORCID and on the opportunities for a deeper ORCID adoption in Spain through initiatives like the CVN normalised CV project.
