Abstract
The presentation provides an overview on the way Research Information Management Systems (RIMS/CRIS) are used in Europe for the purpose of capturing the research activity and its outcomes at a wide range of institutions and stakeholders. The CERIF data model is described as the basis for the multiple-level system interoperability that allows research information to be aggregated as a national/regional level and beyond. An example shows how the information held in CRIS system may provide the the analysis of funded research at an EU-wide level in the area of funded projects, offering valuable data that will allow the multiple research funding bodies to exploit their synergies. The partial, non-comprehensive snapshot for US RIMS provided by the euroCRIS Directory of Research Information Systems (DRIS) is finally shown and discussed.
