Abstract
National research information ecosystems increasingly require coordination of funding data, institutional records, scholarly outputs, and evaluation frameworks within interoperable infrastructures. The experience of Portugal reflects a move toward integrated and semantically structured national research environments.
The presentation looks into how ontology-driven research knowledge graphs such as those enabled by VIVO, can support national-scale coordination and provide foundations for emerging AI-assisted services. Key themes include:
● Interoperability across funding, curricular, and institutional systems
● Semantic structuring of national research data for consistency and provenance
● AI-assisted narrative generation and contextual analytics from curated datasets
● Alignment with responsible metrics and transparent evaluation principles
The presentation argues that national research infrastructures benefit from combining semantic clarity with intelligent analytical tools, strengthening comparability, accountability, and trust in research information environments.
