    This contribution gives an overview of the newly added entity “Research Infrastructures” in FRIS, the regional CRIS of Flanders. With this contribution we want to share the process and model we used to capture the metadata. Furthermore we will focus on the visualization of the golden record for research infrastructures: agreements with stakeholders and final view.

    Research infrastructures: metadata model & data capturing in FRIS

    The presentation, jointly delivered by members of the Flemish Government Department of Economy, Science and Innovation and the ECOOM at Hasselt University, describes the ongoing process for the inclusion of data on research infrastructures into the regional Flanders Research Information Space (FRIS) regional CRIS. The scope of the initiative and the metadata model used to capture this additional piece of research information are outlined and some examples are shown. Future plans around this development involve offering a visualisation of what projects make use of the infrastructure and what publications are the result of data created via a certain piece of research equipment or facility.

    The presentation provides an overview of the evolution of Open Science in Flanders, addressing its underpinning policies, coordination mechanisms across institutions involved in its implementation, associated infrastructure (such as the FRIS regional CRIS) and monitoring framework, which includes a set of key performance indicators. The adoption of Open Science, strongly supported by the Flemish government, takes place in the context of wider European initiatives such as the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).

    This contribution gives an idea of how a funding organisation uses a regional CRIS as a primary data source for research reporting. Research information needs to be put correctly in the institutional CRIS, then needs to be sent to FRIS, the regional CRIS of Flanders, and finally can be retrieved by the funding organisation to prefill the researchers’ report. This leads to less administrative reporting burden for the researcher and to more complete information in FRIS.
