In Croatia, the MetaRegister, managed by The Ministry of Justice, Administration, and Digital Transformation is a central catalogue that documents data available from various government authorities and public services. It lays the groundwork for an integration of information systems within public administration, with one of the goals being to reduce paper use in public services. MetaRegister provides essential details for managing and connecting institutions' data within public services. This way data exchange saves costs on technical maintenance and communication tools. Also, institutions using the data do not need to know the exact source of the information.

As a part of the Scientific and Technological Foresight (STF) project led by the Croatian Ministry of Science and Education, the University of Zagreb Computing Centre (Srce) is creating -- with support from the Centre for Scientific Information of the Ruđer Bošković Institute -- the national Croatian research information system called CroRIS. CroRIS is designed as a CERIF-based national research information system that will integrate a large amount of data regarding research in Croatia, including data about researchers, institutions, projects, publications, products, patents, equipment, services etc.

Under the guidance of the University of Zagreb, University Computing Centre – SRCE, the Croatian Open Science Cloud (HR-OOZ) Initiative has been started, concentrating on producing a draft of the national plan and policies for open science by defining the initiative's structure and principles. The Croatian Research Information System (CroRIS) serves as the repository of HR-OOZ services and resources, solidifying our dedication to cultivating an atmosphere that encourages open science practices in Croatia. As the national Current Research Information System (CRIS), CroRIS actively promotes open science by ensuring the reliability of information, openness, and interoperability, and providing essential support for informed decision-making. In doing so, CroRIS serves as a cornerstone in advancing the scientific landscape in Croatia and contributing to the scientific community. On top of that, CroRIS helps automate and orchestrate other computing and data services.

Croatian National CRIS - Advances and Challenges

The initial phase of development and implementation of a national CRIS in Croatia is in its last year. In this talk, we will address the work that took place up to the present day as well as challenges that the project team dealt with, both from organizational and informational perspective. A special emphasis will be given to the adaption and extension of CERIF model. In conclusion, we will provide a plan for the future development and our vision of the national research information landscape.

Virtual Campus - a Core Information Infrastructure of the European University (and how it is related to research information)

The presentation shows the architecture of virtual campuses -- a form of a joint information system designed to keep the processes running within a European University Alliance -- and some of their functionalities, focusing on the part of virtual campus related to promoting open science and researcher networking. The value of common infrastructures and systems related to research activities is examined, namely ORCID and OpenAIRE, and some challenges related to it.

CroRIS Data Quality Issues and Possible Solutions

There have been previous presentation of the Croatian national CRIS (CroRIS) at various euroCRIS events. These provided updates on its architecture, design, modules and the role it will take as a NOSC service catalogue as well. This presentation addresses the so far little-discussed topic of data quality, especially taking into account the various sources of data being migrated and blended into CroRIS and the large number of its everyday users. The presentation describes the complex research information landscape in Croatia prior to the arrival of CroRIS and the various workflows and system role definitions adopted by the national CRIS initiative to optimise the quality of the data held in it and the way it's displayed to the outside world.

Creating the Croatian National CRIS

The “Scientific and Technological Foresight“ project is under way in Croatia. This project, led by the Ministry of Science and Education, has several goals – definition of legal framework regarding research information management in Croatia, creation of the national CRIS and the implementation of scientific and technological mapping and foresight. The biggest one, the creation of a national CRIS system (CroRIS), is entrusted to University Computing Centre of University of Zagreb.

Common Research Information Management from a European University Alliance Perspective

As befits an initiative supported by the European Commission DG for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture, European University Alliances are expected to deliver a leap forward in the way transnational education is implemented at a European level. The opportunities these cross-institutional collaboration networks offer in the domain of research are however as relevant as those available in the area of teaching and learning. Aware that little has been presented in this domain at previous EUNIS annual congresses, the coauthors set out to explore what European university alliances might achieve (and are already achieving) in the realm of research through an effective collaboration across its member institutions. This exploration aims to identify some best practices against the framework provided by euroCRIS's regular community management work in the area of research information.

The University of Zagreb Computing Centre (SRCE) is currently developing a new national information system for the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth, called ISPiK (Information System of Indicators and Quality in Science and Higher Education). This system will support different processes regarding quality assurance and financing of higher education and research in Croatia, the reaccreditation process being one of them. The CroRIS national CRIS in Croatia is identified as a key data source for this process
