    The role of academic libraries and CRIS: OCLC and euroCRIS working together

    The presentation describes the current joint work by OCLC and euroCRIS to explore the role of research and academic libraries in the field of research information management. This initiative includes the issuing of a joint position paper and a survey to map the current state of research information management systems worldwide. A case study follows showing the implementation of different areas of research information management at the University of St Andrews and the role played by the Library with the institutional CRIS at its core.

    Is a Current Research Information System (CRIS) a critical corporate system for HEIs? A Case Study from the University of St Andrews

    With over half of all UK Universities using a commercial Current Research Information System (CRIS) to manage and promote institutional research activity and output, this paper examines the drivers behind this rapid adoption and how the CRIS has raised awareness within central units (Registry, HR, Finance) of how they ‘fit into the bigger picture’ of research within the University. It also looks at how the CRIS has adapted to the rapidly changing funder policies around open access to research outputs and data.

    Let’s Talk Some More - Interoperability between University CRIS/IR and Researchfish – a follow up case study from the UK

    This paper describes how the pilot between Researchfish and institutional systems presented at the CRIS2016 conference, http://hdl.handle.net/11366/492, was extended over the next two years and explains key lessons in four areas: 1. How communications and business processes have helped to increase the level of interoperability of publication data from a range of different CRIS systems. 2. How the third phase of the pilot looking at the feasibility of interoperability around non-publication outputs found that there was already a great deal of scope in this area and identified a series of key lessons to increase the scale of information exchange. 3. What happened when the ability to exchange publication information was expand beyond the 6 pilot universities to all research organisations using Researchfish. 4. How the lessons gained from the project can be implemented and what the next steps might be.

    CASRAI: the Business Agreements Behind Technology Interoperabilty

    Presentation on the current activity of CASRAI, including CASRAI-UK and the forthcoming European Chapter of CASRAI.     A Survey of Research Information Management Practices was jointly carried out by euroCRIS and OCLC Research from October 2017 to January 2018. In this presentation, we will share preliminary findings from this survey, and build upon earlier research conducted by euroCRIS and EUNIS in 2016, which examined the use of and interoperability between CRISs and institutional repositories (IRs) in European research organizations.

    The emerging role of Institutional CRIS in facilitating Open Scholarship

    This paper and presentation describe the evolution of institutional CRIS (Current Research Information Systems) from their traditional role as a tool managed by the Research Office to manage and assess research towards more widespread uses within institutions, in particular within the Library, to facilitate Open Science. Open Science or Scholarship is one of the hottest topics around. Organisations and funders from the G8 down stress the importance of openness in driving everything from global innovation through to more accountable governance; not to mention the more direct possibility that non-compliance could result in grant income drying up for individual researchers. It focuses on the UK, using St Andrews as a detailed example, describing the organisational, procedural and technological responses to this ‘open by default’ agenda, and why and how the Library is taking a leading role in these changes.

    Findings from the euroCRIS/OCLC Research Survey of Research Information Management Practices

    At last year’s Pure International Conference in Barcelona, we encouraged you to participate in a global Survey of Research Information Management Practices, jointly administered by euroCRIS and OCLC Research. This year we will be sharing the findings from that survey. With more than 300 survey respondents from 40 nations, the survey provides a powerful and current snapshot of the state of the research information management ecosystem worldwide. In this presentation, we will particularly focus on findings relevant to the Pure community, examining research information management uses and functions, stakeholders, regional distinctions and incentives, interoperability, and the adoption of persistent identifiers. The findings will be published in late 2018 as an OCLC Research Report.
