Item type:Publication, Integration, Service Orientation and Convergence – Advancing Research Information Management at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology(euroCRIS, 2012-06-08); The analysts in their outlooks for 2012 identify as trends Social Media, Unified Communication & Collaboration (UCC), Next Generation Business Intelligence and Mobile IT. The paper by considering the impact of these innovations on Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) evolves a picture of the ‘Next-Generation CRIS’. The future CRIS as a multifunctional platform will not only be deeply embedded in integrated and service-oriented architectures, but also comprise strong Social Media and UCC components, be graded up to a severe Business Intelligence tool and be accessible on all kinds of mobile devices anywhere and anytime. By these extensions of its range of functionalities the whole scientific and science management lifecycle will be supported. In the final chapter it is shown, to which extent the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in a strategic partnership with the AVEDAS AG is about to realize a Next-Generation CRIS within the running implementation project KIT-CRIS. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, De Facto Standards Interoperating in the Real World - VIVO/ORCID/CASRAI(2014-08-08); ; A compelling and dominant use case for the research management domain is the discoverability of researchers based on their expertise. An approach to meet the requirements of a larger research information landscape needs to apply business context to constrain the whole-world into smaller semantic packages. These packages (CVs, finance reports, HR reports, outputs reports, impacts reports, etc.) need to be exchangeable with relevant systems in multiple domains such as HR, Finance and Research Information systems. To guarantee a scalable approach, these packages need to align with community-driven efforts at standardizing IDs and models for these package exchanges. VIVO and ISF already align with ORCID for the standard ID part of the problem and we plan to focus on the standard model part of the problem. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Entities and Identities in Research Information Systems(euroCRIS, 2012-06-08); ; Where science is increasingly becoming a global business and furthermore with open data and access initiatives, means to identify and thus to connect system-internal with non-internal entities are urgently needed. The need for identifiers beyond systems is thus a global requirement but also relevant within organization boundaries spanning multiple systems. Various identifier initiatives and systems have started in the scientific domain and beyond. However, they have not yet achieved the required interoperability. With this paper we aim to collect additional essential ingredients towards designing a sustainable CERIF identifier sub model, contributing to ongoing discussions and supporting design decisions. Here, we first present common issues with identifiers in the wider academic domain, before we analyze available systems, technologies and current initiatives solving the global identity gap. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, CONVERIS 5: the Next Generation Current Research Information System(euroCRIS, 2012-06-08); ; Current trends such as Virtual Research Environments, Unified Communication and Collaboration and Social Media motivate the elaboration of collaboration facilities within Current Research Information Systems. In particular, federated scenarios demand for an enhancement in the way different CRIS or the researchers respectively exchange information. Besides covering the complete research process, the next generation of CRIS has to address these issues by allowing the researcher an efficient way to communicate. Item type:Publication, Advances in Sharing and Managing Knowledge about European Research Infrastructures(euroCRIS, 2012-06-08); ; Research excellence requires excellent research infrastructures. Given the important role of research infrastructures for scientific discoveries and innovation, the European scientific community and policy makers have expressed their needs for a comprehensive database of research infrastructures in Europe. The European Commission funded MERIL initiative (Mapping of the European Research Infrastructure Landscape), which is coordinated by the European Science Foundation (ESF), aims to achieve an inventory of research infrastructures of European relevance and to make the information publicly available through an interactive online portal, which will be launched during the Autumn 2012. In this paper, we describe the initiative and discuss the driving forces, challenges and solutions for establishing a system which sustainably provides its stakeholders with the desired key information on Research Infrastructure of European relevance. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, CASRAI and ORCID – Putting the pieces together to collaboratively support the research community(euroCRIS, 2014-05-13); ; Researchers and the organizations that support research are stymied by data that are inconsistently specified. Incentives to share data go together with mechanisms to support interoperability. Both are starting to gain traction with the development and implementation of shared standards in research data exchange. The Consortia Advancing Standards in Research Administration Information (CASRAI) provides a peer-reviewed, open dictionary of terminology for the semantics and record-structures of research information. ORCID provides a persistent registry for researchers to obtain a unique identifier and, like CASRAI, works with the community to embed these identifiers in research workflows. Coupled with the CERIF model, which has been adopted as a structural model for research management systems by the European Commission, and CrossRef publication and DataCite dataset identifiers, these underlying exchange standards and services comprise a framework that supports open access and acknowledgement of researcher contributions. In this paper we describe a recent effort to ensure that information exchanged between systems meets the needs of both researchers and data consumers. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, Harmonising and Formalising Research Administration Profiles - CASRAI/CERIF(euroCRIS, 2014-05-13); ; CASRAI and CERIF are international standardisation initiatives in the domain of Research Information Management. CASRAI develops and maintains a standard extensible vocabulary and exchangeable data profiles that reflect the business requirements of involved stakeholders. A data profile specifies the maximal ideal space of its application with compliant data records. CERIF is a data model supplying standard formal syntax and declared semantics to preserve the meaning inherent in identified requirements. It enables the transformation of conceptual descriptions into formal representation thereof and thus their meaningful re-use as well as a semantically compliant and syntactically valid data interchange. With this paper we share the experience, and the lessons learned from the transformation of CASRAI profiles into CERIF XML through the example of an Abridged CV. - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, “All roads lead to Rome”: Establishing Best Practices for the Implementation and Introduction of a CRIS: Insights and Experiences from a CRIS Project at the University of Münster(euroCRIS, 2012-06-08); The management of research information becomes more and more important and essential for universities to strengthen and manifest their position in the competitive research environment. In order to facilitate these tasks, an increasing number of German universities launched projects to introduce research information systems. However, the development and introduction of a university-wide research information system tend to be a sophisticated task. The goal of this paper is to support this task by discussing procedures for the implementation and introduction of research information systems based on the experience of a university-wide project at University of Münster and in this way to establish common practices.
