CRIS collaboration in the Danish University Library sector – now and in the future

Abstract

These slides present the findings of the (Danish-language) report "CRIS collaboration in the Danish University Library sector -- now and in the future" at https://vbn.aau.dk/da/publications/cris-samarbejdet-i-universitetsbibliotekssektoren-nu-og-i-fremtid. The report, published in Aug 2020, was the outcome of the project aimed to to map the Danish university libraries' collaborative CRIS work with a view to formulating concrete recommendations for further CRIS cooperation at a national level. The mapping is primarily based on semi-structured interviews, where both practical and strategic levels were included through interviews with Pure staff, Pure managers and heads of university libraries.

The results of the mapping show that CRIS work at Danish university libraries is currently adapted to local needs and – in some cases – to former traditions. CBS and DTU have centralized research registration, AAU, AU, RUC and ITU have decentralized research registration, and KU and SDU have a combination of the two. It is common to the Danish universities that they register publications, activities, prizes and press/media. In most cases, however, publications are the only type of research activity that is quality-assured by the university libraries’ Pure staff. The university libraries handle other research activities in various different ways. The universities' Pure systems are integrated with several other IT systems, some of which "push" data into Pure, while others harvest data. The Danish Pure offices want these integrations and import sources to be expanded and improved according to their needs. Additionally, they want the technical solutions in Pure to be more flexible. The Danish universities all display their research through research portals provided by Elsevier. AAU, CBS, DTU, RUC and SDU have made the shift to the new standardized Pure portal, while AU, KU and ITU still use the older customized portal. However, the Pure offices report numerous errors and failures in the new standard portal, which they want to improve through national cooperation and dialogue with Elsevier. At present, Danish Pure offices participate in national collaborations such as the Pure Steering Committee and two Pure user groups. Furthermore, they strengthen their competencies through conference participation. The future calls for a higher level of sparring and skills development at a national level.
